Colour plays an important role in website design because it evokes meaning and emotion on a subconscious level. Colour can be a significant tool for communicating a business’s message and establishing brand identification when utilised strategically.

Colour selection in website design is more than just a matter of taste. It’s critical to first grasp colour theory, psychology, and harmony in order to build an effective colour palette for a website. Then, based on the brand’s values, messaging, and target market, you may build a palette.

The colours used on a website could communicate a completely different message depending on where a brand’s target market is located. So, based on a client’s target market, how can you know which colours to include or avoid? A quick Google search should help here.

Considering your layout when designing a new website

Posted on April 29, 2022 at 10:12 pm

A website can be extremely important to your business and can make a huge difference to the number of sales you make or enquiries you receive. The layout of your website is very important and will often also impact on how successful your site is. You may have the best products and services in the world, but if your website is really hard to navigate round and impossible to use, then people simply will not waste time and go elsewhere. It is often a shame that some businesses do not get a look in although their products are great, due to the fact that their website is awful.

When considering the layout of your site, you want to try and avoid long lengthy paragraphs of text. Many people may not have lots of time to read through all of this and instead they may want to just find the most important information. You may have a product overview and spec towards the top of the page – somewhere it is easy to find and then all the other information further down. This way it is there if someone wants to find it but not in their face if they simply want the basics.

Are the search engines penalising your website?

Posted on February 18, 2022 at 10:57 pm

When it comes to websites, getting them ranked well on the search engines is not always easy. You may find that there is a lot of competition for your main phrases and that you struggle to make it on to the first page. There can be other reasons why your site may not be performing that well such as a penalisation from the search engines. This can happen for a number of reasons but usually Google sees your site as either risky or spammy.

Years ago some companies did a number of black hat techniques to get their sites ranked but over time, the search engines picked up on these and started to demote sites that were using them. This meant that a site could literally see all its rankings lost over night. Even if you are not purposely trying to do and bad SEO techniques you may accidently cause your site to look spammy by overloading it with keywords. Adding too many keywords to the same page or filling the meta data with a phrase you want to get ranked for can land you with a penalty. Although this can be rectified sometimes it takes a long time to get back to a position of authority.
